Pre-Kindergarten

A child must be 4 by September 30th to enter the Pre-Kindergarten class. Our main objective for the year is to bring each child to his or her own highest level of readiness for Kindergarten.

Each class uses a comprehensive series of workbooks and worksheets. The key to the program is individual success. Each child works in his or her own set of workbooks, learning the skills and concepts necessary to ensure later success in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.

Using Handwriting Without Tears, children will learn to print using hands-on materials and developmentally appropriate learning tools. Fine motor work prepares students for pencil and paper sucess. They will learn to listen and follow directions and practice oral expression. They will improve their auditory and visual discrimination, and also develop fine motor skills, those requiring good eye-hand coordination, such as cutting, gluing, tracing, folding, and coloring.

In addition, each class will cover number recognition and values, letter recognition (upper and lower case), writing of their name, and other studies including their home address and phone number.

Children also attend classes in physical education, art, music, and dance (creative movement). These classes are taught by professionals who specialize in these fields.

Parent-Teacher conferences are held in January to assess progress and readiness for Kindergarten.
